In 1957, after Tate graduated from the University of North Carolina, he opened Allen Tate Co., at 112 S. Tryon Street in Charlotte, selling real estate and insurance. It was a one-man operation with one simple goal - to provide exceptional customer service and a "one-stop shopping" experience for buyers and sellers.
In 1992, Tate recruited President and CEO Pat Riley to help grow the Allen Tate Companies, along with a leadership team, and entrusted them to carry out his vision.
