Honoring Black History Month in Statesville

This February, the City of Statesville NC proudly celebrates Black History Month by honoring the individuals whose leadership, courage, and contributions have helped shape our community. Throughout the month, we will be highlighting local trailblazers and notable firsts whose stories reflect resilience, progress, and lasting impact in Statesville.

From pioneering leaders to historic milestones, these stories remind us that Black history is an essential part of our city’s history - past, present, and future.

We invite you to learn, reflect, and celebrate with us as we share these meaningful stories throughout the month:

Why Plunge?! If you are a person with intellectual disabilities, you encounter adversities daily. You must have courage to try something that doesn’t come easily to you. Our athletes bravely face challenges on the field, in the pool and on the court. They are the inspiration for this event. The funds raised will provide year-round sports training, competition, leadership opportunities, and health services to Special Olympics athletes in our community. Be brrrrr-ave and take the plunge!

Not ready to take the plunge? Would you consider donating so that one more athlete will be able to step off the sidelines and into the game, finding an atmosphere of inclusion where they can experience joy, demonstrate courage and reveal their inner champion!

Statesville Fire Department takes the Plunge!

OK folks… you did it!!

The Statesville Fire Department has officially hit the $2,500 goal to send the SFD Ice Breaker Battalion FREEZIN’ FOR A REASON!

That means BC Wiggins, Lt. Russ, FF Coover, Inspector Campo, Cpt. Baity AND the admin dream team – AC Nicholson, FM Morrison, DC Bell, DC Kennedy, and Chief Kurfees – are headed for the icy water! We can’t thank this community enough for showing up BIG and supporting Special Olympics.

You all are incredible.

BUT… we’re not done yet. The overall goal is $35,000 and we’re currently at $16,786. Let’s make one final push!

And because you all are so convincing…Accreditation Manager Samantha Moose has bravely (and maybe reluctantly 😆) agreed to be the next volunteer/victim. If you know Sam, you know she works wrapped in a heated blanket year-round… so this is a BIG deal!

Let’s raise another $1,500 to send Sam into the chilly waters.

DONATE NOW HERE

And here’s the twist…

If we hit that next $1,500… there’s a BIG announcement and another name revealed.

So… who’s next? 👀

Let’s find out. Donate today. Make it count. Let’s FREEZE for a reason!
